Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is in doubt for the Australian Open after withdrawing from his Medibank International Sydney quarter-final with a back injury.

Tsonga, who powered his way to the Melbourne Park final last year, was scheduled to play Finn Jarkko Nieminen on Thursday night.

The world No.6 had been bothered by his back during his opening match against Simone Bolleli, receiving treatment during the breaks.

  • Tsonga,

I wish you a speedy recovery because you, among a few others, I am gearing up to watch. So please get treated daily with massages and ice. And please do a freat deal of stretching. Your absences will definitely be a serious blow to the popular tournament of Americans...who love you! GET TREATED,YOU'RE NEEDED!!! Good-Luck!

Kenny, if you make a bet then it is void and you get your money back. If you have it in a multi then the remaining events on your multi go ahead as usual.

I'm a huge fan of his tennis...and unlike other tennis players, he has a good physique...but I wonder if that extra heavy weight is doing him a lot of harm...i've lost count of the injuries he's been having...

If you make a bet on a player that retires due to injury, the bet is a push and you get your wager amount back.

I wonder about his training routine? He seems to get injured quite a lot even though he's so young.

Time for Tsonga to take his fitness more seriously. HOw about doing an hour of yoga per day and realign and strengthen that body? It seems like tennis players push their body to the limit but overlook the long term benefit of soft training like Yoga.
