Medibank International Sydney 2010 unveiled an impressive line-up of players and plans for the January event at today’s official launch at the Westin Sydney.
Tournament Director Craig Watson announced a world-class field of players, exciting on-site initiatives and great value ticketing options for the event, to be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from 10 to 16, January 2010.
“The Medibank International Sydney is one of the oldest tennis events in the world. It is our 125th anniversary in 2010 and it keeps getting bigger and better,” Watson said today.
“We set the benchmark in 2009 with more than 90,000 spectators and we plan to make the 2010 event another one to remember.”
“We are thrilled to have current world number one and 11- time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams returning to Sydney again in 2010,” continued Watson.

“Joining Serena are enigmatic Frenchman and current World No. 14, Gael Monfils and Australia’s No. 1 players Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur.”
Others already confirmed for the Medibank International Sydney include four top men and four top women.
Watson added that there would be more player announcements before entries close at the end of November.
Promising great ticket options for Sydney sports fans, Watson also said the popular $9.90 ground pass would again be available in 2010.
“Our $9.90 ground pass is the best value sporting ticket in Sydney and for the first time we have packaged together our finals and quarter-finals sessions to provide better options for spectators,” he explained, adding all ticket prices remained at 2009 levels.
Other announcements at today’s launch included:
• “Kids’ Day” on Monday 11 January 2010, where all children under the age of 16 will be given free access to the grounds and on-site activities
• new and improved Live Site and Medibank Interactive Zone
• the return of the twilight concert series at the Live Site
• significant new and continued support from the corporate sector including title sponsor, Medibank
• Hawk-eye returning for Medibank International Sydney 2010
Medibank’s Executive General Manager, Marketing and Product, Tony Hall, is looking forward to another exciting tournament and says the strong fit between the two organisations adds to its success.
