 Richard Gasquet fell out of the top 20 for the first time in four years. The Frenchman had a positive start to the season, reaching the seminfinals at the Brisbane International and the Medibank International Sydney. He recorded defeats against Taylor Dent and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Brisbane and Dimitry Tursunov and Gilles Simon in Sydney. Gasquet then went on the reach the third round of the Australian Open falling to Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in a marathon five set match, finishing 12-10 in the fifth. He had a stint off the tour after suspension for a positive drug test, but was cleared in July to return to action. Gasquet went on to reach the seminfinals at Metz in September and finish off the season with a quarterfinal appearance in Basel. |
